Relax, Reflect, Refuel: Transforming Your Practice with the Reflective Process

Dr. Kristie Brandt

This workshop is designed for providers that work with clients of all ages, and will focus on reflective practice as a strategy for enhancing skills, understanding our reactions and responses when working with others, and transforming practice. The beneficial impacts of reflecting on our work experiences will be discussed, including reduced work stress, an enhanced sense of competence and well-being, and improved outcomes for those being served. The neurobiological concepts related to the reflective process will be extensively explored and levels of cognitive and emotional functioning explained. The goal of continually transforming our work through personal awareness and incorporation of new knowledge into practice will be the primary theme throughout the day. Simple ways to expand our reflective activities will be discussed, and the relationship between our own reflective capacities and our ability to sup-port clients and colleagues in their journey, though the parallel process, will be analyzed.
